Inclusive Youth Games
Cricket was invited to be part of the Inclusive Youth Games for the first time this year with the games being held at Loughborough University on Friday 25th June.
Schools began arriving in Loughborough at 9:30am to take part in the opening ceremony before making their way to the individual sports competitions. Lancaster, Melton and North West Leicestershire SSPs took part in the Kwik Cricket competition which was supported and run by the LRCB and young volunteers from schools and colleges.
The overall cricket competition was won by Lancaster with the fair-play award going to North West Leicestershire for the team’s punctuality, team spirit, sportsmanship, playing by the rules and spectator behaviour.
Thanks goes to all of the teams, staff and volunteers who took part in the event and worked hard to ensure the day ran well and was enjoyed by the children taking part.
Youth Games
Loughborough University hosted the East Midlands’ Airport Leicester-Shire and Rutland Youth Games on Sunday 27th June 2010.
Blaby, Harborough, Oadby & Wigston, North West Leicestershire, Rutland and Leicester City District took part in the Year 5 & 6 Kwik cricket competition following the game’s opening ceremony.
The overall winner of the cricket competition was Blaby who played Harborough in the final. They scored well in the final with a total of 250, taking wickets at regular intervals despite Harborough’s best efforts. Harborough played 3 girls in their team throughout the competition and were worthy winners of the fair play award for the team’s punctuality, team spirit, sportsmanship, playing by the rules and spectator behaviour.

County Kwik Cricket Competition
The County Kwik Cricket competition was played on Tuesday 29th June at the County Ground. After winning their respective SSP competition, 9 of the 10 SSPs were involved in the competition playing matches on the outfield at Grace Road.
At the end of a great cricket day Rothley Primary School dominated the competition and became Asda Kwik Cricket county champions. They progressed to the Regional Final for East Midlands where they will be joined by Farndon Fields Primary of Market Harborough who were the runners up of Tuesday’s finals.
Other teams that made it to County Finals at Grace Road were: Sandfield (3rd place), Congerstone (4th), Hall Orchard (5th), Great Dalby (6th), Willesley (7th), English Martyrs (8th) and Christ the King (9th).ASDA, who are the national sponsors, were present on the day to keep the young players refreshed by handing out drinks and healthy snacks.
Young volunteers and leaders supported the day helping to set up the pitches umpire and score the games and making sure that the children enjoyed their day.
